Truboy BBQ, Houston’s acclaimed mail-order halal barbecue company, is opening its first brick-and-mortar restaurant in Missouri City at 8035 Hwy 6 on October 9. Founded by Houston native Jereis Khawaja, Truboy began as a tailgate sensation at Denver Broncos games—eventually evolving into a nationwide mail-order business and supplier to popular Houston restaurants like Abu Omar Halal and Dripped Birria.

The new fast-casual spot focuses on making authentic Texas barbecue inclusive and accessible, serving a 100% halal menu that features brisket—sliced, chopped, or pulled chicken—presented in creative formats unlike the traditional barbecue joint.

Diners will be able to order their smoked meats as a sandwich on an egg bun, as a cheese-laden melt, in a burrito wrapped with mac and cheese and pickles, in a paratha wrap with chutney, or as a hearty bowl loaded with classic and South Asian-inspired toppings.

The restaurant will also feature a range of heat-and-serve items like brisket egg rolls, brisket tamales, sausage, beef ribs, and signature desserts alongside imported goods and house-made sauces.

Truboy’s grand opening will include a ribbon cutting at 1 p.m. and 25-percent off all meals as service kicks off at 3 p.m.

Khawaja’s vision is to show that Texas barbecue can be both authentic and inclusive, with the new storefront serving as a hub for the community and further cementing the city’s reputation as a haven for diverse dining experiences.
