Trader Joe’s Confirms Two New Stores Amid Houston Expansion

Last Updated: September 18, 2025By

Trader Joe’s, the beloved California-based grocery chain known for its cult following and quirky, budget-friendly food finds, is ramping up its presence in Greater Houston with the official confirmation of new stores in Kingwood and Cypress.

The Kingwood store will replace a vacant Randalls at 600 Kingwood Drive, while the Cypress location is slated for 9715 Towne Lake Parkway, across from the popular Boardwalk at Towne Lake mixed-use development.

These additions will mark the seventh and eighth Trader Joe’s stores in the Houston area, and both have appeared on the brand’s “Coming Soon” list, though exact opening dates are not yet announced. Residents in Kingwood and Atascocita are buzzing with anticipation, while some Cypress locals have voiced concerns over increasing traffic and parking.

The expansion comes at a time when other grocery chains, including Kroger and Food Town, have closed locations in Houston due to everything from failed mergers to changing consumer preferences. Trader Joe’s, meanwhile, is betting big nationwide: 41 “Opening Soon” stores are set to be launched across 19 states, including Bee Cave and McKinney in Texas.

The company emphasizes factors like population density, traffic flow, and parking accessibility when picking new store sites, with the goal of making the Trader Joe’s experience fun and convenient for families and foodies alike.

As Houston’s grocery landscape evolves, Trader Joe’s continued growth stands in contrast to the contraction of other chains—promising more quirky snacks, seasonal favorites, wine selections, and no self-checkouts for local shoppers.

Enthusiastic fans have already begun planning their shopping trips, setting up social media groups, and speculating on the best seasonal launches for opening week. While official dates are unannounced, local officials and Trader Joe’s representatives confirm that stores typically open within three to six months after initial construction and permitting wrap.

As anticipation builds for these new locations, Trader Joe’s reaffirms its reputation as a retailer that can thrive even as the sector faces inflation and competition. For Houston-area residents, this means more choices, more opportunities to discover affordable foodie treasures, and a fresh spark in the local shopping scene.
