Houston Cosmetic Company Charged for Dumping Lotion in Bayou
A Houston cosmetic company, Immacule Lab Corporation, has been charged for illegally dumping approximately 100 gallons of coconut lotion into White Oak Bayou, causing significant environmental damage. The incident came to light in May 2025 when local residents noticed a distinctive white, murky substance contaminating the waterway and shared photos that quickly attracted attention.
Investigations led by Harris County Constable Precinct 1 and Harris County Municipal Utility District 23 confirmed that the lotion dumped into the bayou violated the Texas Water Code as a pollutant. The company admitted to releasing the lotion, which they described as a “bad batch,” on April 15 without any proper permitting for such discharge.
The impact of this dumping has been severe. It has destroyed vegetation along the banks of White Oak Bayou, killed plants in and around the water, and posed a threat to the local aquatic wildlife.
The normally clear waters were transformed into a troubling murky flow, unsettling nearby communities concerned about ongoing environmental health. Residents described the sight as one of the worst pollution events they have witnessed in decades, emphasizing both natural beauty lost and the dangers of unchecked corporate pollution.
Authorities have reiterated the importance of adhering to pollution control laws to prevent future incidents like this, protecting ecosystems and public health. As a felony, the charges against Immacule Lab Corporation carry potential penalties including up to 10 years in prison and fines reaching $10,000. This case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences companies face when environmental regulations are disregarded.
Houston’s community and environmental groups remain vigilant as the investigation proceeds and look toward lessons learned to strengthen waterway protections citywide. The White Oak Bayou incident underscores the need for stricter oversight and the enforcement of environmental safety protocols to prevent pollution disasters going forward.
